Tony Luna

 BIOGRAPHY

Mr. Tony Luna received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education at California State University, Fresno in 1993, and his Master of Arts degree in Music Education at the University of Washington in 2000.  While attending Fresno State, Mr. Luna performed as principal trumpet/cornet in the CSU, Fresno Scholarship Brass Quintet, Orchestra, Jazz Band "A" and "B," Wind Ensemble, and served as Drum Major for the Fresno State "Bulldog" Marching Band.  After a year of chartering a new band program at Mendota High School in Mendota, California, Mr. Luna accepted the position as Director of Bands at his alma mater, Roosevelt School of the Arts in Fresno, California.  While at Roosevelt, his band program received many awards and accolades, including a Command Performance at the Santa Cruz Jazz Festival, Finalist at the San Joaquin Jazz Festival, and Superior concert band ratings.  Furthermore, the Roosevelt Latin Jazz Ensemble was invited to perform at both the 1995 International Association for Jazz Education Conference in Anaheim, and the 1996 International Association for Jazz Education Conference in Atlanta.

In 1997, Mr. Luna moved with his family to the Seattle area where he began working on his graduate degree at the University of Washington, and was hired as the Director of Bands at Bellevue High School in Bellevue, Washington.  The Bellevue Band program received Superior Wind Ensemble and Concert Band ratings at district band festivals, "Most Outstanding Jazz Band" at the 1998 University of Puget Sound Wind Festival, First Place at the 1998 Reno Jazz Festival, First Place at the 1999 Clark College Jazz Festival in Vancouver, Washington, First Place at the 2000 Jazz Northwest Festival in Spokane, Washington, and two First Place awards at the Auburn Jazz Festival in Auburn, Washington.  Also, Bellevue High School Jazz Band "I" was invited to perform at the 2000 International Association for Jazz Education Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Mr. Luna is a current member of the International Association for Jazz Education, International Trumpet Guild, National Band Association, California Association for Music Education, and the Music Educators National Conference.
